Folk/pop recording artist Heather Mae today announced the continuation of her tour in support of the release of her 5-song EP entitled, “I AM ENOUGH”.
The Virginia born, plus sized, queer artist is fast making a name for herself for her inspiring live shows, her message centered songs, and her ebullient personality.
Reaching #60 on iTunes Pop Album charts upon its’ release on June 10th, the EP garnered early and strong support from CURVE magazine including premiering Heather Mae’s first music video from the collection, featuring the title song: CURVE FEATURE – HEATHER
Heather, a flourishing independent musician, initially raised funds to create the “I AM ENOUGH” project through a successful Kickstarter campaign in late 2015. FLURT Magazine noticed at that time calling Heather Mae “An artist for those who are different.” FLURT FEATURE – HEATHER
And L-Mag wrote this stunning review of Heather Mae, “Heather Mae is the new queer Adele.”
To kick off her “I AM ENOUGH” promotion, Heather began her tour in the South West, playing Austin, Nashville and did a turn at the Kerrville Folk Festival where she was lauded as a finalist in the Kerrville Songwriting Showcase. She then headed to NYC for a show at Rockwood and then, to her home turf, the DC/Virginia area playing to a nearly sold out Jammin’ Java during PRIDE weekend on Saturday, June 11.
Heather Mae returns to the road when she plays early August dates at the popular Arlington, VA club, IOTA, on Monday, August 8th, and then back to NYC for another turn at wowing audiences at Pianos, on Tuesday, August 16th.
ABOUT HEATHER MAE and I AM ENOUGH EP:
With producer Mark Williams (Suckerpunch Recording Co.) at the wheel, the I AM ENOUGH collection of five songs is a bold breakout from her former years as a folk singer-songwriter strumming a ukulele. Mae breaks ground in I AM ENOUGH not only for her interesting indie-pop sound, but also for her musical take on touchy subjects ranging from LGBTQ discrimination, gender stereotypes, body image, and mental health issues. Mae also includes references to the Black Lives Matter movement and the June SCOTUS ruling on gay marriage which destroyed DOMA.
This is what sets Mae apart—she seeks to write music for those that need an anthem and doesn’t shy away from tackling topics not often heard in pop music.
The title track to her new album, ‘I Am Enough’ is an ode to body positivity and breaking away from self-imposed affliction to fit into what society defines as beautiful.
“I see this record as a platform for change. Pop music with a mission.” says Heather. “I am inspired by artists who are able to combine both. When I was told I would never sing again I went through a very introspective time. It was having to sit in silence that changed me. I hadn’t ever used my voice for good and that became my mantra as I recovered,” Mae says.
Heather realized she had never really written about the issues that meant the most to her.
Other songs include, ‘Wanderer’ and ‘No Poor Soul’– reflections of Mae’s own experience of publicly coming out and the relief associated with finding love that accepts you just as you are—externally and internally. ‘Stand Up’ wraps up the entire record with its challenge to listeners to fight against intolerances that so many of us face, such as racism, sexism and other prejudices.
