The new animated DC film “Justice League vs. Teen Titans,” has been released and just like every DC animated film this one features bonus material-including a featurette for the upcoming animated version of one of comics controversial stories-Batman: The Killing Joke. The 12 min. sneak peak has made its way online and features clips from the film-we get to hear the iconic voices of Kevin Conroy (Batman), Mark Hamill (The Joker), Tara Strong (Batgirl) and Ray Wise (Commissioner Gordon).
The featurette also includes a discussion with the film’s creative team about their approach to adapting the Alan Moore and Brian Bolland graphic novel. Interviews with director Sam Liu, producer Bruce Timm, and DC’s creative director of animation Mike Carlin, discuss the challenges of adapting Bolland’s art for the animated story and some of the changes made to such as an expanded backstory for Batgirl.
How Batgirl was treated in the original source material has always been a source of contention amongst readers so to hear that Batgirl’s story is expanded upon is a step in the right direction.
Batman: The Killing Joke is rated R, and will arrive later this year in direct to video format.
