The popular manga and anime Full Metal Alchemist is gearing up for a live-action film adaptation set for 2017.
The original story by Hiromu Arakawa revolves around the Elric Brothers, who search for a philosopher’s stone to restore their bodies after a failed attempt to bring their mother back to life using alchemy.
The live action film will be directed by Fumihiko Sori (Ping Pong, Vexille) and will star (above) Ryosuke Yamada (Assassination Classroom‘s Shiota Nagisa and member of J-Pop boy band Hey!Say!JUMP!) as lead protagonist Edward Elric.
Shooting begins in June in Italy and will run through August for a 2017 release date in Japan.
