“Doubutsu Sentai Zyuohger” to introduce new member

The 40th anniversary Super Sentai Series (the original source of the Power Rangers series) Doubutsu Sentai Zyuohger premiered on Valentine’s Day with the story of zoologist in training Kazakiri Yamato (Masaki Nagao), possessing a cube known as the Mark of the King, accidentally sent to the world of Zyuland, where he meets four Zyumans, animal humanoids.

They are the shark Sera (Miki Yanagi), the lion Leo (Shohei Nanba), the elephant Tusk (Tsurugi Watanabe), and the tiger Amu (Haruka Tateishi). The Zyumans also possess the Marks of the King, and when the Deathgalien, an alien army force, selects Earth for its 100th Blood Game, Yamato and the Zyumans are transported back to Earth, where they learn of the powers of the Marks, thus transforming them into the Zyuohgers.

The fifth episode introduced Larry, a gorilla Zyuman who came to Earth to study the mannerisms of the humans only to be scared of them, until he meets Yamato. He gives Yamato his cube, thus giving ZyuohEagle a second form, ZyuohGorilla (image above).

However, it has been revealed that the Zyuohgers will eventually have a sixth member, who has the oddest name yet for a Super Sentai hero: ZyuohTheWorld. This new ranger has no identity yet, but according to Toei (the creator of the Super Sentai Series since the death of the series’ founder Shotaro Ishinomori), ZyuohTheWorld will have not one, not two, but three forms: ZyuohCrocodile, ZyuohRhino, and ZyuohWolf.

Here’s a photo of the new Zyuohger:

Doubutsu Sentai Zyuohger is on TV Asahi in Japan Sunday mornings at 7:30am Tokyo time. However, fans in the U.S. can enjoy fan-subbed episodes every Thursday from TV-Nihon.
