It’s Morphin Time! Production has begun on Power Rangers, the big screen reboot of the original Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers that is being directed by South African director Dean Israelite.
The first official still on set features the new heroes who will play the titular team. In the back row, we have R.J. Cyler as Billy, the Blue Ranger; Naomi Scott as Kimberly, the Pink Ranger; Ludi Lin as Zack, the Black Ranger; and Dacre Montgomery as Jason, the Red Ranger. In the foreground is Becky G as Trini, the Yellow Ranger.
Israelite describes the team as a group of teenagers who have to deal with their own personal issues to help them overcome the threat of Earth by the evil Rita Repulsa, played by A-list actress Elizabeth Banks. In other words, unlike the original series, the teenagers don’t start off as the best friends we once knew, but they eventually must come together as a team to stop Repulsa from taking over the Earth.
Series creator Haim Saban, Brian Casentini, and Wyck Godfrey are among the film’s producers. The team of Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz wrote the screenplay for the film.
Power Rangers will be released on March 24, 2017 from Saban Brands and Lionsgate.
