The night before she takes the stage during the Superbowl halftime show, Beyoncé released a new music video titled ‘Formation’, featuring Big Freedia.
In talking to Fuse TV, Big Freedia had this to say about working with Queen B:
“It was a total shocker when I got a call from Beyonce’s publicist and she said Beyoncé wanted me to get on this track. When I heard the track and the concept behind it, which was Beyoncé paying homage to her roots (New Iberia, La.), I was even more excited! It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life and I was beyond honored to work with the original Queen B. I think it turned out amazing too!”
In addition to Freedia, at the voice heard at the beginning of the video is the late New Orleans social media celebrity and rapper Messy Mya. Mya who was born Anthony Barre, was only 22 when he was shot and killed on Nov. 14, 2010, near St. Anthony and North Rocheblave streets after leaving a baby shower for his unborn son.
The song is available to stream and download for free only on Tidal. The queen also updated her online store with clothing and accessories in relation to the new song. And it’s just been announced that Beyoncé will perform the song during the Superbowl halftime show!
