Production on the sequel to “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”, the 2014 reboot that was actually a hit, has begun. Confirmed is that Megan Fox is reprising her role of news reporter April O’Neil while Will Arnett is also reprising his role of cameraman Vernon Fenwick. Dave Green is handling directing duties, replacing original helmer Jonathan Liebesman.
While details of the plot are unknown at this time, two pivotal characters have been officially cast. Stephen Amell, the star of the awesome CW show “Arrow”, will play Casey Jones. Jones is best described as a hockey-mask wearing vigilante who first is at odds with the heroes in a half-shell only to ultimately become their ally and even a love interest for April.
The other role cast is that of Dr. Baxter Stockman. In the 1980’s cartoon, Stockman was responsible for the creation of the robotic Mousers used to seek out and destroy sewer rats. Shredder learns of the invention and hires him to use the Mousers to destroy the turtles’ mentor Splinter. Whether or not the film will follow Stockman on that level is uncertain. What is certain though that Tyler Perry, best known for his role of Madea in his self-produced plays and films, will be playing the role of the scientist.
“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II” is scheduled for a June 3, 2016 release date.
