1848  King Louis I of Bayern abdicates to marry dancer Lola Montez

1852 – Harriet Beecher Stowe’s novel, “Uncle Tom’s Cabin,” is published and becomes the best-selling book of the 19th century

1890 – The General Federation of Womans’ Clubs was founded.

1899 – At Sing Sing prison, Martha M. Place became the first woman to be executed in the electric chair. She was put to death for the murder of her stepdaughter.

1920 – US Ladies Figure Skating championship won by Theresa Weld

1952  24th Academy Awards – “American in Paris”, Humphrey Bogart & Vivian Leigh win

1963  Sikkim crown prince Paldan Thondup Namgyal marries Hope Cooke

1965  Civil and Women’s Rights Activist Dorothy Height has her first column published in the weekly African-American newspaper called the “New York Amsterdam News”

1966  Marilynn Smith wins LPGA St Petersburg Women’s Golf Open

1967 – Twiggy arrived in the U.S. for a one-week stay.

1969 John Lennon and Yoko Ono were married in Gibraltar.

1976  Rocker Alice Cooper (28) weds choreographer Sheryl Goddard in Acapulco, Mexico

1976 – Patricia Hearst was convicted of armed robbery for her role in the hold up of a San Francisco Bank.

1981 – Argentine ex-president Isabel Peron was sentenced to eight years in a convent

1981 – Jean Harris sentenced 15-to-life for slaying of Scarsdale Diet Dr

1982 – Joan Jett & Blackhearts’ “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll” goes #1 for 7 wks

1983  Kathy Whitworth wins LPGA Women’s Kemper Golf Open

1985 – Libby Riddles becomes the first woman to win the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.

1986 – Fallon Carrington and Jeff Colby were wed on the TV drama “The Colby’s”. “The Colby’s” was an offshoot of “Dynasty”.

1987 – Yvonne van Gennip skates ladies’ world record 5 km (7:20.36)

1988 – Laura Davies wins Circle K LPGA Tucson Golf Open

1990 – Imelda Marcos, widow of ex-Philippines dictator Ferdinand Marcos, went on trial for racketeering, embezzlement and bribery.

1990 Gloria Estefan and her band are injured in a bus accident near Scranton, PA.

1991 – The U.S. Supreme Court ruled unanimously that employers could not exclude women from jobs where exposure to toxic chemicals could potentially damage a fetus.

1991  Court awards Peggy Lee $3 million in suit against Disney

1992 – Noriega’s wife Felicidad arrested for stealing buttons from dresses

1992 – Janice Pennington was awarded $1.3 million for accident on the set of the “Price is Right” TV show.

1993  Talk show host Morton Downey Jr (59) weds producer Lori Krebs (29) in Bellmore, New York

1994 – Laura Davies wins LPGA Standard Register Ping Golf Tournament

1999  “Smallville” actress Annette O’ Toole (46) weds “Laverne and Shirley” actor Michael McKean (51) at The Regal Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles, California

2002 – Actress Pamela Anderson disclosed that she had hepatitis C.
