Some interesting news in the comic book universe have hit during the Valentine’s Day weekend…so here we go!

  • Joel Kinnaman (left) is in negotiations to play Rick Flagg in the DC Comics film “Suicide Squad”. Tom Hardy, who was originally cast, had to withdraw due to schedule conflicts and Jake Gyllenhaal turned down the role. Kinnaman is best known in the States for the TV series “The Killing” and played Alex Murphy in last year’s “RoboCop” reboot, which was not all that bad.
  • “Deadpool”, starring Ryan Reynolds, will have two more comic characters in the film. As he is part of Fox’s “X-Men” universe, the character of Colossus will be in the film. However, it is unknown if Daniel Cudmore, who played the metal-skinned mutant in “X2”, “X-Men: The Last Stand”, and “X-Men: Days of Future Past” will reprise the role. The other character will be Angel Dust, part of the mutant group the Morlocks. Former mixed martial arts champion turned actor Gina Carano (“In the Blood”) will play the character.
  • Adrienne Palicki has been promoted to series regular on “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”. She plays agent Bobbi Morse, also known as Mockingbird. In other S.H.I.E.L.D. news, Australian actor Luke Mitchell (“Home and Away”) has been cast as an Inhuman who will prove vital to the second half of season two. If you have missed the mid-season finale, I will not spoil it for you.
  • Rumors abounded last week that “Arrow” character John Diggle, played by David Ramsay, could actually be John Stewart, who would go on to be “Green Lantern” after Hal Jordan. “Arrow” showrunner Greg Berlanti shot down those rumors today and says that something could happen to Diggle, but instead of a power ring, a “wedding ring” may be needed.

And that’s your superhero news update!!!
